Opera Goes to the Library

Opera North, Inc. and the Wissahickon Valley Public Library presents OPERA GOES TO THE LIBRARY.  A new community interactive concert performance combining music, opera and literature.  The performance will include Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bizet’s Carmen, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and other opera and Broadway selections.  The performers include accomplished opera singers and instrumentalists that will entertain and engage the audience through their music, conversation and invitation to perform with the concert artists.  In addition to the concert performance, books will be on display and available for loan ranging from children’s illustrated books, fun stories, biographies and history all related to music and opera for the readers’ enjoyment and educational experience.

See this gorgeous, restored mansion decorated for the holidays.   Show and tell of homemade holiday decorations that were popular during the early 1900s.  Also, try your hand at typical games of the period.  Enjoy lovely powerpoint photos of the mansion of a wealthy Montgomery County family at the turn of the last century. Memories of New Mexico with Barbara Getzow.  Barbara recalls her life in the Southwest, in the Four Corners area with its amazing National Parks.  She lived on a reservation, learned some Navajo phrases and Native American songs.  She attended genuine pow-wows.  Barabara will have handouts to help teach a little of the language and culture.  She will show and tell of her collection of artifacts and Hopi dolls.
