Read to a Dog

Monday, November 5, 2018 - 4:00pm
Event location:
Blue Bell

* This progra is for elementar ag children only *

Meet Macey and Bella on Monday, November 5th at 4:00pm for our Read to a Dog program!

They are both excited to hear a good story!

The dog and child will be able to sit together while the child practices his or her reading skills without the pressure of reading aloud in front of others.

Your child will have approximately 10 minutes to read to one dog.

Please have a book of your choice ready to read when it is your turn! A good idea would be to choose your book a few days in advance and take it home to practice so that you are ready to read on the day you are signed up for.

Information from Therapy Dogs International at: tdi-dog.org

Some children develop difficulties in reading, which may result in low self esteem and self-conciousness when reading aloud in front of classmates. By reading to the dog, all threats of being judged are put aside. The child is able to relax and focus on the reading.

Improving the child's reading skills is a major benefit of this program because it takes away the pressure and allows the child to practice the skill of reading.

Many children naturally love animals, so when a child knows he or she will be reading to a dog, they become more excited and motivated about reading.
