The Library provides access to Internet resources in support of its mission to provide information of all types. However, some information found on the Internet may be inaccurate, incomplete, dated or offensive to some individuals. The consumer must evaluate the validity, authority and appropriateness of the information found. The library is not responsible for the content of the Internet.
A child’s use of the Internet is solely the responsibility of the child’s parent or guardian. Parents or guardians must guide their children in use of the Internet and inform them about materials they should not use. To assist parents in this endeavor, the library filters the Internet.
All internet users follow the rules below:
- Maximum number of people to a computer is 2.
- Maximum use of computers (when patrons are waiting) is 20 minutes.
- NO pornographic images or text may be viewed.
- NO installing software.
- NO downloading or storing files.
- NO altering software or hardware configurations.
- NO illegal use of the computer. The user must comply with all local, state and federal laws. This includes but is not limited to: hacking (unauthorized entry into other systems), theft & copyright law infringement.
- Parents/Guardians may not leave children younger than grade 7 unattended at the computer. Parents/Guardians must sign out a computer to a child younger than grade 7.
- Please be considerate of others.
Library privileges may be suspended by the Library Director for violations of these rules.

Responsibilities of Users
The Wissahickon Valley Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed over the Internet. Library patrons use it at their own risk.
Users are warned that the library cannot assure the confidentiality of personal information transmitted. Minors should be warned by their parent or guardian not to disclose personal information. Parents who believe their children cannot responsibly use Internet access are requested to monitor their children’s Internet use.
The Wissahickon Valley Public Library complies with the Acceptable Use Policy of the MCLINC Internet Service Provider https://www.mclinc.org/about-us/policies/acceptable-use-policy/. Any activity which does not comply with that policy is prohibited.
Users may not use library Internet access for any illegal purpose. This includes but is not limited to harassment, stalking, child pornography, scams theft or terrorism. Users may not display pornographic materials.
Filtering
Wireless sessions are filtered using the electronic protection measures (filtering) purchased and configured by MCLINC, as required for compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act. However, no filtering product is 100% effective and parents are urged to monitor their children’s activities.

Wissahickon Valley Public Library and MCLINC will not be held liable for any damage to personal hardware or software, or for virus infections or other consequences caused by downloads while using Wissahickon Valley Public Library’s MCLINC network. Patrons must agree to indemnify and hold Wissahickon Valley Public Library, MCLINC and its member libraries harmless from any and all liability.
